The first-ever Asian Pacific Single Deaf Chess Competition commenced today (Wednesday) at a local hotel in the city, marking a significant milestone for deaf chess players from across the region.
State Minister of Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md. Mohibbur Rahman, MP, graced the occasion as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the six-day event. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Mohammad Khairul Bashar, chairman of the competition organizing committee.
Addressing the gathering, State Minister Md. Mohibbur Rahman highlighted the government's commitment to the welfare and empowerment of the disabled community. He emphasized that special schemes initiated by the Prime Minister aim to uplift and support individuals with disabilities, enhancing their family and social standing.
Furthermore, the State Minister mentioned ongoing efforts, including the construction of a sports complex, to facilitate healthy sports practices for disabled athletes, fostering an inclusive environment for sports and recreation.
The competition, organized by the Bangladesh Deaf Sports Federation (BDSF), has attracted 39 talented deaf chess players from six countries: India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and host country Bangladesh. This gathering not only promotes sportsmanship but also strengthens bonds among participants from diverse backgrounds.
Fortune Group chairman and esteemed sports organizer Khobir Uddin, along with BDSF general secretary Ghazi Quamrul Hasan, graced the inauguration ceremony with their presence, underscoring the collaborative efforts to promote sports and inclusivity within the community.
The Asian Pacific Singles Deaf Chess Competition promises to be a celebration of skill, determination, and camaraderie, embodying the spirit of sportsmanship and resilience among deaf athletes from across the region.
