Australia's T20 World Cup squad announcement on Wednesday saw former captain Steve Smith and rising talent Jake Fraser-McGurk notably absent from the list. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh was appointed captain, with veteran opening batsman David Warner securing a spot in what could be his final international tournament.

Cricket Australia chair Mike Baird praised Marsh's leadership qualities, citing his exemplary contribution to the team over an extended period. The 15-man squad includes experienced players such as Test skipper Pat Cummins, paceman Mitchell Starc, and explosive all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, with 11 members having been part of the victorious 2021 T20 World Cup campaign.

Selector George Bailey revealed that Smith's inclusion was a subject of "long conversations" due to a dip in his limited-overs performance. However, the final squad aims to strike a balance for optimal success in the upcoming tournament.

Bailey also highlighted the promising form of 22-year-old Fraser-McGurk, currently showcasing his batting prowess for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in the United States and the West Indies in June.

The Australia squad for the T20 World Cup comprises Mitchell Marsh (captain), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, and Adam Zampa.
