Towhid Hridoy showcased his batting prowess by scoring his maiden half-century in T20 format, helping Bangladesh secure a hard-fought nine-run victory over Zimbabwe in the third match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram today. With this win, Bangladesh sealed the series with an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match T20 series.
Despite the eventual success, Bangladesh faced a tougher challenge compared to their dominant victories in the first two matches. After posting a total of 165-8 batting first, thanks to Hridoy's impressive 57 off 38 balls, Bangladesh had a shaky start during Zimbabwe's chase. However, the Bangladeshi bowlers managed to restrict Zimbabwe to 156-9, securing the win.
Zimbabwe's Faraz Akram and Wellington Masakadza's partnership of 54 runs for the ninth wicket posed a threat to Bangladesh's victory, but the bowlers maintained their composure under pressure.
Earlier, Bangladesh's innings saw a crucial partnership between Hridoy and Jaker Ali Anik, who contributed 44 runs. Despite losing some early wickets, their partnership propelled Bangladesh to a competitive total.
Zimbabwe's chase was marked by a lack of significant partnerships, with several key batsmen failing to make an impact. Although Faraz Akram and Wellington Masakadza showed resilience towards the end, Bangladesh's bowlers, led by Taskin Ahmed and Saifuddin, held their nerve in the crucial final overs to secure the win.
The fourth T20 match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe is scheduled for Friday in Dhaka.
