The International Cricket Council has named Australian captain Pat Cummins the 2023 Cricketer of the Year. This information was provided by the ICC in a news statement on Thursday, January 25. Additionally, Nat Seaver Brunt of England took home the women's cricket prize for the second consecutive year.

The Indian batsman Virat Kohli was named the ODI Player of the Year, while Australian Usman Khawaja was named the Test Player of the Year, according to the ICC.

Along with three other competitors, Cummins was shortlisted for the 'Gary Sobers Trophy' for Cricketer of the Year. Travis Head, a fellow Canadian, and India's Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja were behind Cummins for the trophy. In 24 games across three different international cricket tournaments in the previous year, Cummins claimed 59 wickets with the ball. With the bat, he also scored 422 runs.

As captain, Cummins has excelled more in team activities than in solo endeavors in 2023. Ajira won two world titles in a single year under his direction. After Australia defeated India in June of last year, he guided his team to the World Test Championship trophy. Australia's victory over Rohit-Kohli in India completed the 'hexa' of the ODI World Cup. That same year, his squad also secured the Ashes series with a 2-2 draw in England.
