Bangladesh pace bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during their T20 World Cup 2024 Group D match against Nepal at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Sunday.

Incident and Breach Details

Tanzim was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to "inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match." This violation is classified as a Level 1 breach.

Context of the Incident

The incident took place at the end of the third over of Nepal's innings. Following a delivery, Tanzim approached Nepal batter Rohit Paudel in an aggressive manner and made inappropriate physical contact. This action was deemed unacceptable under the ICC’s regulations.

Admission and Sanction

Tanzim admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. As a result, there was no need for a formal hearing. In addition to the fine, one demerit point has been added to Tanzim's disciplinary record. This is his first offense within a 24-month period.

Officials and Penalties

The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal, and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena. According to ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player's match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

Tanzim's sanction underscores the ICC’s commitment to maintaining discipline and respect on the field. As the T20 World Cup progresses, players are reminded to adhere strictly to the Code of Conduct to ensure fair play and sportsmanship.
