New Zealand has announced their Test squad for the upcoming matches against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, featuring promising seamers Will O'Rourke and Ben Sears. These two young bowlers have been included as the Black Caps aim to recover from their disappointing exit in the group stages of the Twenty20 World Cup last June.

The squad will first face Afghanistan in a one-off Test in Noida, India, next month, followed by a two-Test series against Sri Lanka in late September. This will be the first time O'Rourke and Sears play overseas Tests. O'Rourke, 23, made a notable debut against South Africa in February, taking nine wickets for 93 runs. Sears, 26, debuted in March against Australia, taking five wickets.

New Zealand's head coach Gary Stead expressed enthusiasm about the inclusion of these young players, highlighting their performances as the reason for their selection. Stead also welcomed the return of all-rounder Michael Bracewell to the Test squad, following his recovery from injuries.

World-class batsman Kane Williamson is part of an experienced top order that includes veteran openers Devon Conway and Tom Latham. The squad also features five spin options: Mitchell Santner, Ajaz Patel, Rachin Ravindra, Bracewell, and Glenn Phillips, reflecting the subcontinent conditions they will face.

This three-Test series marks the beginning of a busy four-month period for New Zealand, with upcoming matches against India and England.
