The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has addressed recent allegations regarding delays in distributing prize money from the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, hosted in India last year. Match referee Debbrata Paul had claimed that the players had not yet received their prize money, which is typically distributed within 15 days according to the ICC's agreement with the International Cricketers' Association.
In response, the BCB clarified that the delay was due to administrative hurdles rather than negligence. The BCB stated that the process of receiving prize money for major ICC events, like the World Cup, usually takes several months. The delay has been attributed to taxation formalities and compliance issues, which are affecting multiple countries, not just Bangladesh.
To address the issue, the BCB engaged Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP, a prominent international accounting firm, to handle the necessary procedures for the players. The BCB anticipates that the prize money will be credited in the coming weeks.
The BCB also rejected the allegations of malpractice made by a BCB councilor, asserting that such claims are unfounded and detrimental to the integrity of the Board's operations.
