Bangladesh's U-19 Women's football team has clinched a spot in the final of the South Asian Football Federation's (SAFF) Championship '2024 with an impeccable record, overpowering Bhutan with a resounding 4-0 victory. The match, held at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Shipahi Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Dhaka's Kamalapur on Tuesday, showcased Bangladesh's dominance throughout the tournament.
Having secured their place in the final with a remarkable win against India, Bangladesh displayed their prowess once again against Bhutan. Oeyshi Khatun stole the show with a brilliant brace in the 31st and 63rd minutes, while Nushrat Jahan and Trishna Rani added to the tally with goals in the 18th and 58th minutes, respectively.
In a strategic move, Bangladesh rested some key players in their lineup, but it didn't diminish their performance as they maintained control over their opponents from the outset. The victory sets the stage for an intense final showdown against India on Thursday at 6 p.m. local time, promising an exhilarating clash between the two neighboring rivals.
Earlier in the day, India solidified their place in the final by defeating Nepal with a commanding 4-0 victory. Neha showcased her brilliance with two goals in the 54th and 81st minutes, supported by Sulanjana Raul and Cindy Remruatpuli Colney who contributed with goals in the 86th and 90+3 minutes, respectively.
With the completion of the league matches, Bangladesh emerges as the frontrunner, boasting a flawless record with nine points from three consecutive wins. India follows closely behind in second place, securing six points from three matches to advance to the final stage.
Unfortunately, Nepal and Bhutan bid farewell to the tournament after failing to secure enough points to progress. Despite their best efforts, they couldn't match the dominance displayed by Bangladesh and India in the tournament.
The journey to the final has been a testament to the skill and determination of both Bangladesh and India's U-19 Women's teams. Their impressive performances have captivated football enthusiasts and set the stage for an electrifying finale, as they vie for the coveted SAFF Championship title.
