Alexander Zverev and Grigor Dimitrov, both seasoned Grand Slam contenders, aim to advance to the US Open semi-finals on Tuesday, edging closer to their first major title. However, they face tough challenges from American players Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe, who are determined to break their country's 21-year drought for a male Grand Slam champion.

In the women's draw, world number two Aryna Sabalenka, who was the runner-up in 2023, will compete against Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen. Meanwhile, Emma Navarro and Paula Badosa, both born in New York, will clash in another quarter-final match.

Zverev, ranked fourth, holds a narrow 5-4 lead in head-to-head matches against Fritz. He was the runner-up in the 2020 US Open and the French Open final this year. With Novak Djokovic out, Zverev is the highest-ranked player in his half of the draw. Fritz, who has already made three quarter-finals this year, defeated Zverev at Wimbledon despite the German's knee injury.

Dimitrov, 33 and the oldest man left in the tournament, is aiming for his second semi-final appearance in New York after his 2019 run. He leads Tiafoe 3-1 in their head-to-head record. Tiafoe, known for his entertaining play, is in his third consecutive US Open quarter-final.

In the women’s matches, Badosa, who recently overcame a serious injury, is in her first US Open quarter-final. Navarro, who eliminated defending champion Coco Gauff, is also making her first quarter-final appearance. Sabalenka, in her fourth consecutive US Open quarter-final, faces Zheng, who is seeking revenge for her losses to Sabalenka in the past.
