CLEVELAND, Sept 12 V7N - Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson "strongly denies" the latest allegations of sexual assault and battery made against him in a civil lawsuit filed on Monday, according to his attorney Rusty Hardin. The unidentified woman filed the lawsuit in Harris County, Texas, seeking $1 million in damages.
She claims that Watson sexually assaulted and battered her during a dinner date at her apartment in October 2020, when he was still playing for the Houston Texans.
In a statement, Hardin said, "Deshaun strongly denies the allegations in the Jane Doe lawsuit filed Monday. We have asked him not to comment further while this matter works its way through the courts, but are comfortable he will ultimately be vindicated."The NFL is currently reviewing the allegations and any potential violations of the league's personal conduct policy.
The Browns have stated they will follow the league's guidelines regarding the matter.Despite the new allegations, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Watson will play in Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Stefanski said he was unaware of the lawsuit prior to it being filed and did not consider sitting Watson. This latest lawsuit is the latest in a series of allegations against Watson, who sat out the entire 2021 season as more than two dozen women came forward to accuse him of sexual assault and inappropriate conduct during massage therapy sessions. In the summer of 2022, Watson reached settlements in 23 of the civil lawsuits he was facing.
He was then traded to the Browns and suspended for the first 11 games of the 2022 season.Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing the current and other plaintiffs, stated that they had hoped to resolve this case privately, but Watson's team "couldn't or wouldn't give this case the attention it was due."As the NFL's investigation continues, Watson will remain eligible to play for the Browns, with the team and league stating they will follow the appropriate protocols and guidelines.
