Sept 22, V7N - Team World took an 8-4 lead over Team Europe at the Laver Cup after Ben Shelton and Alejandro Tabilo defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud 6-1, 6-2 in a dominant doubles performance on Saturday. The victory capped off day two of the tournament, pushing Team World ahead after strong performances throughout the day.

Earlier, Shelton had lost his singles match 6-4, 6-4 to Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, who leveled the score to 4-4 after Frances Tiafoe's comeback win over Daniil Medvedev. Despite his singles loss, Shelton redeemed himself in the doubles match alongside Tabilo, expressing his excitement about contributing to the team.

Taylor Fritz had also added to Team World’s momentum earlier in the day, defeating Alexander Zverev 6-4, 7-5. Fritz fought back from a 2-4 deficit in the second set to secure the win.

The Laver Cup format awards one point for victories on the first day, two points on the second day, and three points on the final day, making Sunday’s matches crucial as both teams aim for the title.
