Sept 24- V7N- The Memphis Showboats of the United Football League (UFL) have appointed Ken Whisenhunt as their new head coach. Whisenhunt, 62, brings substantial NFL coaching experience, having previously led the Arizona Cardinals (2007-2012) and Tennessee Titans (2014-2015). Most recently, he worked as a special assistant to Alabama's Nick Saban during the 2023 season.
Expressing his excitement, Whisenhunt said, "I’ve been watching these leagues grow, and I’m amazed at the progress. I’m looking forward to working with these young men and helping them achieve their dreams of playing professional football and potentially making it to the NFL."
Whisenhunt's head coaching tenure includes leading the 2008 Arizona Cardinals to Super Bowl XLIII, where they narrowly lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-23. Additionally, he served as the offensive coordinator for the Steelers from 2004 to 2006, helping secure a win in Super Bowl XL, and later for the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers.
The Showboats also appointed Jim Monos, former XFL senior director of football operations, as their general manager. UFL president Russ Brandon said, "We’re thrilled to bring both Ken and Jim on board to lead the Showboats as we continue to develop our football ecosystem."
The 2025 UFL season will begin on March 28. The Showboats are looking to improve after a 2-8 finish in their inaugural 2024 season under previous head coach John DeFilippo.
