Dhaka, Nov 20 (V7N)- As winter approaches and you prepare to switch off your air conditioner (AC) for a few months, it’s important to take the right steps to maintain it and ensure smooth operation when you turn it back on. Here’s a guide to help you prepare your AC before winter sets in:

1. Unplug the AC
The first thing to do is to unplug the AC to prevent any risk of electrical short circuits. This will also save power and reduce any potential damage to the unit.

2. Clean the AC Filter
Whether you have a split or window AC, the filter needs cleaning.
- For split AC: Gently lift the front cover and remove the filter.
- For window AC: Open the front panel and remove the filter.
Wash the filter with water and soap, then wipe it down with a soft, clean cloth to remove any remaining dust or dirt. A clean filter ensures better air quality and efficiency.

3. Clean the Evaporator and Condenser Coils
Both coils need regular maintenance to keep the AC working efficiently.
- Evaporator Coil (inside): For split ACs, gently lift the front cover and wipe the evaporator coil with a soft, clean cloth.
- Condenser Coil (outside): Use a coil cleaner spray on the outdoor unit, as it tends to accumulate more dust.

4. Clean the Fins
The fins inside the AC help the system run smoothly. Use a soft toothbrush to gently clean the fins. If any fins are bent, carefully straighten them using a fin comb.

5. Clean the Condensation Line
The condensation line helps in moisture removal. Dust and dirt often accumulate here. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove any debris from the condensation line to ensure proper moisture drainage.

6. Clean the Outdoor Unit
The outdoor unit often collects the most dirt, so it needs extra attention. Use a hose to spray water on the unit, but be cautious not to use too much water to avoid damaging the components.

7. Cover the Indoor and Outdoor Units
Once everything is cleaned, it’s a good idea to cover both the indoor and outdoor units. This will prevent dust from accumulating while the AC is not in use during the winter months.

8. Consider Using an Air Purifier
Air pollution is a major factor in the accumulation of dirt in your AC. By using an air purifier in your home, you can reduce the amount of dust in the air, thus keeping your AC cleaner for longer.

Taking these simple steps before turning off your AC for the winter will help keep it in great condition and ensure that when the weather warms up, it will work efficiently right from the start!
