Apr 26 (V7N)- Yahoo has expressed its interest in acquiring Google’s popular web browser Chrome if Google is forced to sell it to break its alleged monopoly in the search engine market, according to a report by the Times of India.
During testimony in the ongoing US Department of Justice antitrust trial against Google, Yahoo’s head of search, Brian Provost, revealed that Yahoo would submit a bid to buy Chrome if it became available for sale.
Google is currently facing serious charges of monopolistic practices in the search engine market. If the court's verdict goes against Google, it may be compelled to divest key assets — including Chrome, one of the world's most widely used browsers.
Besides Yahoo, OpenAI and Perplexity have also reportedly shown interest in acquiring Chrome, indicating a potential high-profile competition for ownership of the browser if a breakup is ordered.
The outcome of the trial could reshape the search and browser landscape significantly.
