The court in Russia has convicted Meta's spokesperson, Andy Stone, of justifying terrorism and sentenced him to six years in prison in absentia. Stone's remarks following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 led to charges, despite being based in the United States. Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, faced backlash, with Russian authorities outlawing it as an extremist organization and blocking access to its platforms. Stone's trial concluded swiftly, with him being represented by a government-appointed lawyer and receiving a six-year sentence. Meta declined to comment on the verdict. Additionally, Russia formally barred Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg from entering the country in April 2022.
