DHAKA, July 01 (V7N) – Bangladesh's Health Department has confirmed 13 new COVID-19 infections nationwide in the 24-hour period spanning from 8 AM Monday to 8 AM Tuesday. Out of 312 samples tested during this time, the positivity rate stood at 4.17 percent, according to a statement from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Notably, no COVID-19 related deaths were reported during this period, keeping the cumulative death toll since the pandemic began in 2020 at 29,521.

Meanwhile, the city and district of Chattogram have also seen a localized increase in cases. Fifteen additional individuals out of 160 tested positive for COVID-19 in Chattogram during the last 24 hours. These new infections bring the total number of Coronavirus cases in Chattogram to 158 over the past 22 days, as confirmed by Dr. Jahangir Alam, the Civil Surgeon of Chattogram.

Dr. Alam stated that COVID-19 tests are currently being conducted in 12 different laboratories in the region, including the RT-PCR lab at Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). Currently, 84 infected patients are receiving treatment at various designated hospitals in Chattogram. Of the 158 total confirmed cases in Chattogram, 143 are residents of the port city, while the remaining 15 are from different upazilas (sub-districts) within the district. So far, seven people in the Chattogram district have succumbed to the virus.

The Civil Surgeon emphasized that the Health Department has implemented comprehensive measures to prevent further outbreaks of COVID-19 infection in Chattogram. He urged the public to cooperate by avoiding crowds and consistently wearing masks to curb the spread of the virus.
