Prof. Dr. Ahmedul Kabir, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), emphasized that students and the public will not tolerate any mismanagement in hospitals. He made these remarks during a joint press conference with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Kurmitola Hospital in Dhaka on Saturday.
Prof. Dr. Kabir stated, "If anyone is harmed due to irregularities, they must take responsibility. Significant changes in the health sector are imminent." He further announced that they would be visiting every hospital to ensure proper management, with nearly all government hospitals in Dhaka inspected on Saturday and private hospitals scheduled for Sunday.
He warned that if any health managers, directors, doctors, nurses, or employees fail to fulfill their duties, or if patients are required to obtain tests or medicines outside of government hospitals, they will be held accountable. "Real change is possible when your opinions are prioritized, not imposed," he added, referencing ongoing advocacy for a National Health Insurance, National Health Authority, and an Independent Commission.
Regarding treatment costs in private hospitals, Dr. Kabir called for generosity during this time, noting that many hospitals have already waived bills on their initiative.
