Balochistan, Oct 11 (V7N)- At least 20 workers were killed and seven others injured in a brutal attack by gunmen on a private coal mine in the Duki area of Balochistan , southwestern Pakistan. The attack occurred early Friday morning, according to local police, as reported by AP .

The armed assailants, who were equipped with heavy weapons including rockets and grenades , launched their assault at dawn. The attackers stormed the mine, causing extensive damage and chaos. Authorities believe the attackers specifically targeted the workers at the mine.

Following the attack, the entire area was put on high alert. Security forces have initiated a search operation to locate the perpetrators. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, suspicion has fallen on separatist armed groups operating in the Balochistan region, which has seen frequent insurgency and violence over the years.

Balochistan has long been a site of unrest, with separatist militants often targeting infrastructure, including mines, in their push for greater autonomy. The region is rich in natural resources, which has made it a flashpoint for conflict between local groups and the Pakistani government.

This latest attack underscores the volatile situation in the province and the continuing threats faced by workers in the area. The injured have been taken to local hospitals, while efforts continue to track down those responsible.
