New Delhi, Oct 11 (V7N)- India has officially designated Hizb ut Tahrir (HuT) as a terrorist organization , according to a notification released by the country's Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday. Multiple media outlets, including NDTV , reported the announcement.

The Ministry's declaration stated that Hizb ut Tahrir aims to establish an Islamic state and caliphate worldwide, including in India, through jihad and terrorist activities . The group has been linked to radicalizing youth and encouraging them to join terrorist organizations like ISIS , while also raising funds for extremist operations.

Following this decision, India's Union Home Minister Amit Shah affirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the ban aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's zero-tolerance policy on terrorism .

Hizb ut Tahrir , formed in Jerusalem in 1953 , has been banned in several other countries, including Bangladesh, Russia, Türkiye, Egypt , and the United Kingdom , which took similar action on January 15 this year.
