Washington, D.C. Nov 07, (V7N) — President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have both extended congratulations to Donald Trump on his victory in the 2024 presidential election. Biden called for a peaceful transition of power and invited Trump to meet at the White House to discuss the next steps. Harris also underscored the importance of uniting the country under the new leadership.

President Biden also reached out to both Trump and Harris earlier on election day. Biden congratulated Harris for her historic campaign and Trump for securing the presidency. In addition, Biden invited Trump to meet with him at the White House, with staff coordinating the details of the visit.

Trump’s victory marked a stunning political comeback, as he triumphed in all seven battleground states needed to secure the 270 electoral votes. Harris, who is the first woman of South Asian and African descent to hold the vice presidency, was scheduled to deliver remarks at Howard University later in the day. The university, where she earned her degree, hosted a watch party during Election Night.

Harris, if elected in future cycles, would also become the first graduate of a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to rise to the presidency. She is expected to speak at Howard University at 4 p.m.

President Biden, in a statement, will address the nation on Thursday about the election results and the transition process.
