Brazil, Nov 14, V7N -A tragic incident unfolded in Brazil’s capital, Brasilia, where two explosions near the Supreme Court and Congress resulted in one death. The blasts occurred outside the Supreme Court and near Annex 4 of the Congress, according to CNN Brasil. Following the explosions, federal security forces quickly secured the area, blocking access to the Three Powers Plaza, the central hub of Brazil’s government branches.
Initially suspected to be a suicide attack, police are still investigating the cause and conducting security sweeps. Attorney General Jorge Messias condemned the attacks and assured the public that federal authorities would conduct a thorough investigation, emphasizing the urgency of restoring peace and security.
The explosions come amidst heightened tensions around the role of Brazil’s Supreme Court, which has expanded its oversight in cases related to political extremism and threats to democracy. This increased authority has sparked both support, as a safeguard for democracy, and criticism, particularly from conservative groups who view it as judicial overreach.
The Three Powers Plaza has been a focal point for political unrest, notably the January 8 riots when supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro stormed government buildings. This recent incident raises further concerns about security and political stability in theregion.
