NOV 27,(V7N) - Jordan has expressed support for the newly implemented ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, viewing it as a key step toward resolving the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The Jordanian foreign ministry highlighted the importance of international efforts to halt hostilities in Gaza and Israeli actions in the West Bank.

Ministry spokesman Sufyan Qudah emphasized Jordan's commitment to Lebanon's security, stability, sovereignty, and the welfare of its citizens. The ministry also called for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which underpins the ceasefire and mandates the presence of Lebanese armed forces and UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon.

The ceasefire concludes two months of war between Israel and Hezbollah, which followed a year of cross-border skirmishes. Jordan further voiced its support for bolstering Lebanon’s institutions, reconstruction efforts, and economic recovery.

As a nation with a significant Palestinian population, Jordan maintains a unique position in the region. It was the second Arab state, after Egypt, to sign a peace treaty with Israel in 1994, ending a formal state of war between the two countries.
