New Delhi, Jan 13 (V7N)— In his annual press conference on Monday, Indian Army Chief Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi highlighted the strategic importance of Bangladesh to India, emphasizing the strong relationship between the two countries.
When asked by a journalist from India Today about the ongoing state of Bangladesh-India relations, General Dwivedi responded, "Bangladesh is our neighbor. Except for a very small part of the country, India shares its entire border with Bangladesh. We must always stay united and understand each other. We should avoid actions that could negatively affect our relationship."
He further noted the importance of communication, stating that he is in constant contact with the Bangladesh Army. He recalled speaking with Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman via video conference on November 24 last year, and also mentioned speaking with the Army Chief during a sensitive period in August 2024, when Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was abroad amid political unrest.
While addressing the development of relations between the two nations, General Dwivedi remarked that such discussions are typically more relevant during the tenure of an elected government, rather than the current government in Bangladesh. However, he assured that the relationship between the armies of both countries remains "well and perfect."
