Washington, Feb 2 (V7N) – The United States has conducted an operation against ISIS in Somalia, resulting in the death of several militants, according to a report by France-24, citing US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Operation in Mount Golis
- The attack took place on Saturday (February 1), local time, in the Mount Golis region of Somalia.
- Hegseth stated that the operation was successful and did not result in any civilian casualties.
Trump Ordered the Strikes
Earlier on Saturday, former US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he had ordered airstrikes on ISIS bases in Somalia.
- He described ISIS militants as a threat to the United States and its allies.
- He claimed that ISIS members were hiding in caves, and vowed to eliminate them.
- Trump also issued a warning to US enemies, stating: “They will be found and killed.”
Interpol Crackdown on ISIS
This operation comes just days after Interpol arrested several ISIS members in East Africa, further intensifying international efforts against the terrorist group.
The US continues its counterterrorism operations in Somalia, targeting ISIS and al-Shabaab militants operating in the region.
