Moscow, March 13, (V7N) – Russia's security service, the FSB, announced on Thursday that it has apprehended a man suspected of sending letter bombs to military officials, the latest in a series of attempted attacks that Moscow has attributed to Kyiv.

Since the commencement of its full-scale military operation in Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has arrested hundreds of citizens accused of collaborating with or conducting acts of sabotage on behalf of Kyiv.

The FSB stated that the suspect, born in 2003, had sent packages containing explosives to "military personnel and officials in the Moscow, Voronezh, Krasnodar, and Saratov regions" earlier this month.

The attack was thwarted after security agents discovered the bombs during screening procedures at Chelyabinsk airport, preventing them from being opened.

"Five parcels containing improvised explosive devices, disguised as perfume gift sets, were found," the FSB reported.

The security service alleged that "Ukrainian special services" had recruited the suspect, a Russian citizen, in exchange for financial compensation, but ceased contact after the bombs were dispatched.

While Ukraine typically refrains from commenting on foiled attacks, it has previously targeted military officials it deems responsible for Russia's offensive.

Russian security forces have intensified their efforts to apprehend individuals suspected of acting on behalf of Ukraine, with courts frequently issuing convictions on charges of treason.
