Kiev, Mar 14 (V7N) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky joined Muslim soldiers for iftar on Thursday, sharing a meal with frontline troops during the holy month of Ramadan. The event, held in the capital Kiev, was a gesture of solidarity with the Muslim members of Ukraine’s military.
During the gathering, Zelensky delivered a brief speech addressing the current situation in the country and the resilience of its armed forces. After his remarks, he sat alongside Muslim soldiers on the ground to break the fast, symbolizing unity and respect for diverse religious communities within Ukraine’s military. The president also participated in prayer following the meal.
Ukraine is home to an estimated 700,000 to 2 million Muslims, making up approximately 0.9% of the country’s population. The majority of the Muslim community resides in Crimea, a region that has been under Russian control since 2014.
Zelensky’s participation in iftar highlights his administration’s recognition of Ukraine’s diverse religious communities and the contribution of Muslim soldiers defending the country. As the war continues, such gestures aim to strengthen national unity and morale among Ukraine’s military forces.
