Washington, Mar 24 (V7N) – Usha Vance, the second lady of the United States and wife of Vice President JD Vance, will visit Greenland on Thursday alongside other U.S. officials. The trip comes as President Donald Trump continues to express interest in the United States acquiring the semiautonomous Danish territory, which is rich in natural resources and strategically located along key shipping routes.

The White House announced that Vance, accompanied by her son and a U.S. delegation, will visit historical sites, explore Greenlandic heritage, and attend the Avannaata Qimussersu, Greenland’s national dogsled race. White House national security advisor Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright will also visit a U.S. military base in Greenland as part of the trip.

In recent months, Trump has repeatedly discussed the possibility of the U.S. acquiring Greenland. He has stated that the territory is important for national and international security. “We need Greenland for national security and even international security, and we’re working with everybody involved to try and get it,” Trump said earlier this month during his joint address to Congress.

However, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has firmly stated that Greenland is not for sale, emphasizing that any cooperation with the U.S. must respect the principles of sovereignty. She also highlighted that discussions about Greenland’s future would be conducted in coordination with both the Danish and Greenlandic governments.

This visit follows a trip earlier this year by Donald Trump Jr. to Greenland, where he filmed content for his podcast but did not engage with government officials.
