GENEVA, Apr 03 (V7N) — UN human rights chief Volker Turk expressed deep concern Thursday over reports of extrajudicial killings of civilians in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, following its recent recapture by the army.
"I am utterly appalled by the credible reports of numerous incidents of summary executions of civilians," Turk stated, urging the Sudanese Armed Forces to end arbitrary killings.
The Sudanese resistance committee reported at least 85 deaths in the past week as government forces clashed with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Turk’s office has reviewed videos showing armed men executing civilians, allegedly punishing RSF supporters.
Fighting between the RSF, led by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, and Sudan’s army under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has raged since April 2023. While the army claims full control of Khartoum, the RSF insists it has merely repositioned its forces.
