Dhaka, Apr 06 (V7N) – Rescue and medical operations are ongoing in Myanmar following the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake on March 28, 2025, with the Bangladesh Armed Forces playing a pivotal role in the relief efforts. On Sunday, a Bangladesh rescue team conducted operations at the collapsed building of the Myanmar Foreign Ministry in Naypyidaw, providing life-saving support.
A press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that Engineering Corps members from the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with experienced personnel from the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, participated in the rescue operations. The team's initial assessment revealed extensive damage to the building, particularly its structural columns, leading to partial collapse. Despite these challenges, the Bangladesh team successfully retrieved important documents, computers, and vital equipment from the wreckage.
In addition to the rescue work, the Bangladesh Medical Assistance Team has been providing advanced medical care in Naypyidaw hospitals. On Sunday, they successfully performed surgeries on six individuals, including a child who was seriously injured in the earthquake. The medical team also carried out several other critical operations to treat the injured.
The Myanmar Foreign Ministry has requested the Bangladesh team to continue their work on Monday, with ongoing rescue efforts and medical services planned for the coming days. The operations are being coordinated with local authorities and other relief organizations in Myanmar.
Since April 1, following the earthquake, a special rescue and medical team under the supervision of the Bangladesh Armed Forces has been conducting relief activities in Naypyidaw, continuing their vital work in the wake of the disaster.
This ongoing assistance reflects the strong bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Myanmar, showcasing the nation's commitment to international humanitarian efforts during times of crisis.
