Tel Aviv, May 18 (V7N) – The Israeli military has intercepted a missile fired from Yemen, according to a statement released on the army’s official Telegram channel on Sunday (May 18). The interception occurred shortly after air raid sirens were triggered in several regions of Israel.
The Houthi movement, a Yemeni rebel group allied with Hamas, has been conducting frequent missile and drone attacks on Israel since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023. Friday saw one of the most intense escalations in weeks, with Israel launching airstrikes on the Houthi-controlled Red Sea ports of Hodeidah and Salif, followed by three retaliatory missile launches by the Houthis later the same day.
In response to the increasing frequency of attacks, Israeli officials have issued a stern warning, stating that Houthi leadership could be targeted if hostilities persist.
The Houthi-run Saba news agency condemned Israel’s recent airstrikes and quoted Houthi authorities as saying the attacks would be “responded to painfully.”
The latest developments signal a further widening of the regional conflict, with Israel now facing coordinated threats from both Gaza and Yemen.
