Amidst reports of the dismissal of Russia's navy chief following the loss of several warships in a Ukrainian attack in the Black Sea, the Kremlin has refrained from offering any official statement. A Kremlin spokesman declined to comment when pressed for a response during a press conference held on Monday.

Speculation has swirled regarding the purported firing of Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, following reports from various media outlets, including the pro-Russian Izvestia newspaper, suggesting that he had been replaced by Northern Fleet commander Alexander Moisiev. However, Russia has chosen not to confirm or deny these reported appointments, which are typically announced through a presidential decree.

When questioned by reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov cited the confidentiality of certain decrees, stating, "There are decrees labeled confidential, I cannot comment on them. There was no public decree on this matter."

Admiral Yevmenov, who assumed the role of Navy chief in May 2019, could potentially face removal if the reports are confirmed, marking a significant shake-up within Russia's military leadership. This move follows the dismissal of Sergei Surovykin, the former head of the Space Force, last year.

The alleged dismissal comes in the wake of heightened tensions in the region, with Ukrainian forces claiming to have destroyed over two dozen Russian vessels, including a military patrol boat, in recent confrontations since the conflict began in February 2022.
