Washington, June 12 (V7N) – The United States government has decided to partially evacuate its embassy in Baghdad due to escalating security concerns in Iraq, Reuters reported on Thursday (June 12).
According to the report, non-essential US embassy staff and their family members in Baghdad will be evacuated. Additionally, US officials are considering the evacuation of family members of US military personnel stationed in Bahrain.
The decision follows intelligence reports indicating that Israel is preparing for a potential military operation against Iran. US intelligence agencies fear that any Israeli attack inside Iran could prompt retaliatory strikes by Iran on US installations in Iraq, prompting the partial evacuation to ensure the safety of American citizens.
This development comes amid ongoing nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Despite multiple rounds of talks, tensions remain high as Iran has not yet agreed to halt its nuclear program. Analysts warn that if these negotiations fail, Israel might conduct unilateral strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, which could escalate regional tensions and risk a wider conflict, potentially bringing the world closer to a third global war.
