Tehran, June 18 (V7N) — A residential building housing officials of the Bangladeshi Embassy in Tehran was struck during an Israeli airstrike on Monday, causing significant damage. At least one official’s residence was extensively destroyed, although no casualties were reported, as the officer was not at home at the time of the attack, according to BBC Bangla.
The incident is part of a wider escalation in the Middle East, as Israel continues its military actions targeting what it claims are Iranian-linked strategic and military sites. The airstrike, reportedly carried out in a densely populated area of the Iranian capital, has raised serious concerns over the safety of diplomatic missions and foreign personnel in the region.
Walid Islam, a Bangladeshi embassy official and one of the victims of the attack, told BBC Bangla:
“My apartment was completely destroyed.”
Sources confirm that the residence was located in a diplomatic zone of Tehran, and while the Bangladeshi chancery itself was not directly hit, collateral damage from nearby strikes reached residential buildings used by embassy staff.
The Government of Bangladesh has not yet issued an official statement, but diplomatic sources indicate that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring the situation and may raise the matter through official channels to ensure the safety of its diplomats abroad.
This is not the first time that rising regional tensions have posed threats to foreign diplomatic missions in Tehran, but it is one of the most direct impacts on Bangladeshi personnel in recent history.
Security has reportedly been tightened around foreign embassies in Tehran in the wake of the incident, as the international community expresses growing alarm over the spillover effects of the ongoing conflict.
