New Delhi, June 19 (V7N) – As tensions escalate across the Middle East due to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, the Indian government has launched 'Operation Sindh' to rescue and repatriate Indian nationals stranded in Iran, The Indian Express reported.
In a statement released on Wednesday, India’s Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that proactive steps have been taken in recent days as the security situation in the region has continued to deteriorate.
As part of the operation’s first phase, the Indian Embassy in Tehran evacuated 110 Indian students from northern Iran on June 17. The group was safely transported across the border into Armenia, reaching Yerevan, the Armenian capital, by road. The students later boarded a special flight from Yerevan and are expected to arrive in New Delhi early Thursday morning.
The Indian government emphasized that these measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of Indian citizens in Iran. Currently, more than 4,000 Indian nationals reside in Iran, with nearly half of them being students.
Indian authorities have stated that further evacuation efforts are under way depending on the evolving situation.
