Ukraine has executed significant drone attacks on Russian oil refineries for the second consecutive day, marking the country's most severe assault on Russia's energy sector in months.

In Wednesday's attack, the largest refinery owned by Russian oil company Rosneft was engulfed in flames, sparking a 2 percent increase in oil prices amid fears of potential disruptions to oil supplies.

President Vladimir Putin asserted that these attacks were orchestrated to disrupt the Russian presidential election scheduled for March 15-17.

Tuesday's assault targeted an oil refinery belonging to Russian multinational oil corporation Lukoil in Nizhny Novgorod, causing extensive damage.

Russian authorities reported that Ukrainian drones struck oil refineries in the Rostov and Ryazan regions on Wednesday. The drone strike in Ryazan, situated 180 kilometers southeast of Moscow, ignited a fire at Rosneft's largest refinery, the seventh-largest in Russia.

Ryazan region governor Paver Malkov confirmed that while the fire had been extinguished, some individuals sustained injuries during the attack.

Following the assault, two oil refining units at the refinery were compelled to shut down, according to sources familiar with the matter. However, Rosneft has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.

Governor Vasiliy Golubev of the Rostov region reported no casualties, but production at the Novoshakhtinsk refinery was temporarily suspended following the attack. Operations at the refinery reportedly resumed later.

An official in Kiev confirmed that Ukraine's SBU intelligence agency conducted the drone attacks, further escalating tensions between the two neighboring countries.
