London, Oct 07 (V7N) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has urged students across the United Kingdom not to participate in pro-Palestinian protests on the anniversary of the October 7 Israeli-Gaza war, describing such demonstrations as “not British.”

In an opinion piece published in The Times on Monday, marking the second anniversary of the 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel, Starmer said that some individuals were using the day as an “excuse for hateful attacks on British Jews.”

“Today, on the anniversary of the barbaric attack on October 7, students are planning another protest. This is not our character as British people. It is rude to be so disrespectful to others. And then some start shouting anti-Semitic slogans again,”
wrote the Prime Minister.

Starmer emphasized that Britain would remain united and firm in defending its Jewish community, amid a reported rise in anti-Semitic incidents in the country.

“Jewish communities living in our country are enduring increasing anti-Semitism on the streets,” he said, reaffirming his government’s commitment to protect them.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid heightened tensions and renewed demonstrations across the UK, as pro-Palestinian groups mark the anniversary of the conflict.
