Washington, Nov 02 (V7N) - Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa is set to become the first Syrian leader to visit the White House, where he will hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington.
The US Ambassador to Syria confirmed the visit on Sunday (November 2), stating that President Al-Sharaa will travel to Washington on November 10.
Al-Sharaa previously visited the United States last September to attend the UN General Assembly in New York. However, during that trip, he did not hold a separate meeting with President Trump nor visit Washington.
According to US diplomatic sources, the upcoming talks are expected to focus on regional security, with particular emphasis on including Damascus in the US-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS).
“The issue of Syria’s potential participation in the anti-IS campaign will be discussed during the meeting,” the US ambassador to Syria said.
If successful, the meeting could mark a historic turning point in US-Syria relations, which have remained strained for more than a decade.
