Rome, Nov 04 (V7N)- A 13th-century historic building in the Italian capital, Rome, collapsed during renovation work, leaving one worker dead. The man was trapped under the debris and was rescued after 12 hours of effort by firefighters, but he died on the way to the hospital, according to a report by Deutsche Welle on Tuesday (November 4).

The first collapse on Monday also injured three other workers, one of whom is in critical condition. Authorities said the building was undergoing restoration as part of a four-year renovation project, expected to be completed next year.

The 29-meter-high structure, known as Torre dei Conti, was built in the early 13th century by Pope Innocent III for his family. The area around the tower has been cordoned off to pedestrians following the incident as authorities continue investigation and safety inspections.
