Washington, Dec 20 (V7N) — The United States Senate has approved the appointment of Brent Christensen as the new US ambassador to Bangladesh, a development he confirmed on Friday.

Brent Christensen announced the confirmation through a post on his LinkedIn account on Friday, December 19, expressing gratitude for the Senate’s approval of his nomination.

According to the US State Department website, Christensen is a senior officer in the United States Foreign Service. He was nominated for the post in September by the US president.

In his statement, Christensen said he was honored to receive the Senate’s confirmation as the next US ambassador to Bangladesh and expressed deep appreciation to President Trump for the trust placed in him.

Christensen is not new to Dhaka, having previously served at the US Embassy in Bangladesh. From 2019 to 2021, he worked as the Political and Economic Counselor at the US Embassy in Dhaka, gaining direct experience with Bangladesh’s political and economic landscape.

His confirmation comes at a time when Dhaka-Washington relations remain strategically significant, with expectations that his prior experience in Bangladesh will help strengthen bilateral engagement.
