Kolkata, Dec 23 (V7N)- Massive protests erupted in Kolkata and parts of Jammu and Rajouri on Tuesday over alleged attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh and the recent killing of a Hindu youth, Dipu Chandra Das, in Mymensingh.

In Kolkata, the protest march titled ‘Hindu Hunkar Padayatra’, organized by Bengiya Hindu Jagran, began from Sealdah station at noon. Hundreds of protesters, dressed in saffron and carrying flags, attempted to surround the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission. Police blocked the procession at Bek Bagan, near Park Circus, using barricades, preventing protesters from approaching the diplomatic mission. The standoff caused severe traffic congestion in central Kolkata. Protesters chanted slogans demanding justice and the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, in Jammu, lawyers of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association held demonstrations condemning the repeated attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. Association President Nirmal K Kotwal called for immediate intervention by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to protect minorities in Bangladesh. Protesters also demanded repatriation of Hindus living in Bangladesh and stronger diplomatic measures to safeguard their lives and property.

Similar protests took place in Rajouri district, where local residents rallied to demand justice for Dipu Das and highlighted the threat to the lives and religious sites of minorities in Bangladesh.

Analysts believe these protests, following earlier demonstrations in Delhi, add pressure to the already sensitive diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh.
