DHAKA, Feb 14, (V7N) - The United Nations has congratulated the people of Bangladesh on successfully holding the parliamentary elections and referendum, calling on all political actors to strengthen national unity and uphold democratic norms and human rights.
In a message, UN Secretary-General António Guterres praised Bangladesh for conducting the polls and urged stakeholders to use the momentum to reinforce democratic practices and national cohesion.
Guterres emphasized the importance of rule of law and ensuring that all citizens, including minorities, fully enjoy their human rights.
He expressed hope that Bangladesh will continue its democratic transition while pursuing inclusive and sustainable reforms, and reiterated the UN’s support for the country in strengthening democratic institutions and fostering social harmony.
