BAGHDAD, Feb 25, 2026 (V7N) - Iraq’s transport ministry said Wednesday that the temporary shutdown of Baghdad International Airport was caused by an “emergency technical problem,” dismissing speculation of any security threat.

Ministry spokesman Maytham Alsafi explained that the fault required immediate precautionary action, with technical teams conducting assessments and repairs. He said the airport would reopen “within hours” once maintenance and final checks were completed.

Alsafi rejected claims of domestic or foreign security risks behind the closure, calling such reports baseless and urging media outlets to verify information through official channels.
