While violence broke out at other college campuses when police broke up similar rallies, tensions at Columbia University began to lessen on Wednesday after the school extended the deadline for students to vacate an encampment put up to oppose Israel's incursion into Gaza.

Meanwhile, violence broke out on other college campuses as authorities broke up similar gatherings.
 
Police and demonstrators got into a physical altercation at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where they detained one individual. After that, more demonstrators encircled the car that was housing the man and chanted, "Let him go" and "Shame on you."
