Recent heavy rains and subsequent floods have ravaged Kenya, claiming the lives of at least 50 people as reported by the British media outlet BBC on Monday, April 29.

The death toll from the ongoing flood crisis has now surged to 150, underscoring the severity of the situation exacerbated by relentless downpours in recent days. The breach of a dam in Mai Mahiu town by the surging river has exacerbated the crisis, inundating at least 70 schools, hospitals, hundreds of residences, and various other structures.

The deluge has also rendered roads impassable, hampering rescue efforts and exacerbating the plight of affected communities. With an estimated two lakh people displaced by the calamity, the Kenyan government has responded by announcing a relief fund totaling approximately $3 million to support victims.

This latest calamity comes on the heels of devastating floods that struck Kenya last month, claiming the lives of over a hundred individuals and wreaking havoc across various regions of the country. The recurring nature of these floods underscores the urgent need for enhanced disaster preparedness and mitigation measures to safeguard vulnerable communities against future calamities.
