A tragic bus accident in the Andean mountains of northern Peru has claimed the lives of 25 people and left 13 others injured, as confirmed by local authorities on Monday. The incident occurred on Sunday evening as the bus was en route to the town of Sorochuco.

According to Olga Bobadilla, provincial prosecutor for the Cajamarca region, the bus overturned and plunged down a slope into a river along an unpaved road. The accident took place under the cover of nightfall, making information collection challenging.

Alexandre Uriart, commissioner of Selendin, a town near the accident site, reported the grim toll, stating that 25 individuals lost their lives in the tragic crash. Additionally, 13 people, including the bus driver, sustained injuries.

The aftermath of the accident has prompted local authorities to initiate investigations into the cause of the crash, as efforts to gather more information continue amidst the remote and rugged terrain of the Andean mountains.
