At least 15 people have died due to severe floods and landslides following heavy rains in Sri Lanka. The deluge has affected over 20 districts, including the capital Colombo, causing widespread devastation.

Sri Lankan media reports indicate that the storms uprooted trees and disrupted the entire communication system, including electricity. In one tragic incident, three members of the same family drowned near Colombo. Numerous individuals have been buried by landslides, prompting authorities to order immediate evacuations of the affected areas.

In response to the disaster, schools and colleges across the country have been closed. Despite the ongoing flood conditions, the Sri Lankan Meteorological Department has forecasted continued heavy rain and thunderstorms, exacerbating the already dire situation.

Rescue efforts are underway, but the severe weather and damage to infrastructure are hindering operations. The government is urging residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate to safer locations as they brace for more adverse weather in the coming days.
