Kashmir, 15 July- Indian troops have shot dead three suspected militants in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, marking the latest in a series of escalating attacks in the disputed northern region. This information was released in a statement by the country's army on Sunday night, as reported by AFP.

Muslim-majority Kashmir has been a point of contention between India and Pakistan since their independence from British rule in 1947. The region has been divided between the two nations, with both claiming the entire area as their own.

According to the Indian Army, three individuals were killed during an "anti-infiltration operation" in Kashmir's Kupwara district. Various types of weapons were also seized during the operation.

India and Pakistan have fought three wars over control of the Himalayan region of Kashmir. Both countries regularly accuse each other of fostering militancy and engaging in espionage.

Rebel groups in the region have been waging an insurgency since 1989, seeking either independence for Kashmir or its integration with Pakistan. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians, soldiers, and rebels over the years.
