Dhaka, July 6 — Russia has described the ongoing situation in Bangladesh as an "internal matter" and expressed hopes for a quick return to constitutional order. This statement came following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amidst widespread student protests. The Turkish media outlet Anadolu Agency reported these developments on Monday.

In an official statement, Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledged the current control exercised by the Bangladesh Army and expressed optimism that an interim government would be established soon. The Russian statement emphasized the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of Bangladesh, underscoring that the change in government is a domestic issue.

The crisis escalated when Sheikh Hasina fled the country on Monday after being forced out by a massive student-led movement, which had intensified following the deaths of hundreds of protesters. The protests initially focused on the abolition of quotas in government jobs but eventually demanded her resignation. Sheikh Hasina's departure marks the end of her 15-year tenure as the head of the government.

Chief of Army Staff General Waqar Uz Zaman addressed the nation following the prime minister's resignation, confirming her departure and announcing plans for an interim government to govern the country of 170 million people.

Russia's call for a swift restoration of constitutional order comes amidst ongoing tensions and uncertainty in Bangladesh. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with various countries expressing their hopes for a peaceful and orderly transition.
