One of the runways at Japan's Narita Airport was temporarily closed on Tuesday after an American cargo plane made an emergency landing due to a hydraulic system issue. The Atlas Air Boeing 747 cargo jet, which was en route to Los Angeles, had to turn back to Narita Airport after the problem was detected at 1:10 AM local time (1610 GMT), according to a transport ministry spokesman.

The aircraft, carrying seven crew members, landed safely, with no injuries reported. However, upon landing, it was discovered that the plane had suffered damage, including ruptured tires and damaged wheels.

As a result, Narita's Runway A was closed for at least seven hours. The tires were replaced, and the runway was expected to resume operations at 8:30 AM local time. The closure had minimal impact on other flights.

This incident occurred shortly after a similar event at Narita Airport on Monday, where a Singapore Airlines plane experienced a brake malfunction upon landing, causing a brief runway closure. Fire engines and ambulances were dispatched after smoke was reported, but no fire was found, and no one was injured. The runway was reopened after being closed for just under an hour.
