Haifa, August 29 - The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an Iraqi-based organization, conducted a drone attack early Thursday morning on a strategic power station in the Israeli-occupied port city of Haifa. The attack targeted the "Alone Tower Industrial Power Station" in Haifa, reportedly in retaliation for the ongoing violence in the Gaza Strip.

Iran-based Mehr News Agency reported that the IRI carried out this operation in response to the continued "barbaric aggression and massacres" conducted by Israel in Gaza over the past ten months. The drone strike is said to have been part of a broader effort by several Middle Eastern groups to protest against Israel's actions in Gaza. However, the Israeli government in Tel Aviv has not yet released any information regarding casualties or the extent of the damage.

This recent attack comes after the IRI announced on Tuesday their intention to strike a significant target in Haifa. The group's statement followed a wave of military operations that began on October 7 last year when Hamas launched one of the largest military operations of the decade against Israel. In retaliation, Israel initiated extensive air and ground assaults on Gaza. Since then, over 40,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been reported killed, with more than 100,000 injured and hundreds of thousands missing.

In light of the escalating violence, several political organizations across the Middle East, including groups from Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, and Yemen, have declared a state of war against Israel. They have vowed to continue their attacks if what they describe as a "genocide" in Gaza does not cease.

As the conflict intensifies, international observers are closely monitoring the situation, fearing further escalation in an already volatile region. The attack on Haifa marks a significant expansion of the conflict beyond Gaza, demonstrating the growing involvement of regional actors in response to the situation in Palestine.
